Equipped with the right applications, a computer can be of great help in virtually any domain of activity. When it comes to designing and precision, no other tool is as accurate as a computer. Moreover, specialized applications such as AutoCAD give you the possibility to design nearly anything ranging from art, to complex mechanical parts or even buildings.
Suitable for business environments and experienced users
After a decent amount of time spent installing the application on your system, you are ready to fire it up. Thanks to the office suite like interface, all of its features are cleverly organized in categories. At a first look, it looks easy enough to use, but the abundance of features it comes equipped with leaves room for second thoughts.
Create 2D and 3D objects
You can make use of basic geometrical shapes to define your objects, as well as draw custom ones. Needless to say that you can take advantage of a multitude of tools that aim to enhance precision. A grid can be enabled so that you can easily snap elements, as well as adding anchor points to fully customize shapes.
With a little imagination and patience on your behalf, nearly anything can be achieved. Available tools allow you to create 3D objects from scratch and have them fully enhanced with high-quality textures. A powerful navigation pane is put at your disposal so that you can carefully position the camera to get a clearer view of the area of interest.
Various export possibilities
Similar to a modern web browser, each project is displayed in its own tab. This comes in handy, especially for comparison views. Moreover, layouts and layers also play important roles, as it makes objects handling a little easier.
Sine the application is not the easiest to carry around, requiring a slightly sophisticated machine to properly run, there are several export options put at your disposal so that the projects itself can be moved around.
Aside from the application specific format, you can save as an image file of multiple types, PDF, FBX and a few more. Additionally, it can be sent via email, directly printed out on a sheet of paper, or even sent to a 3D printing service, if available.
To end with
All in all, AutoCAD remains one of the top applications used by professionals to achieve great precision with projects of nearly any type. It encourages usage with incredible offers for student licenses so you get acquainted with its abundance of features early on. A lot can be said about what it can and can't do, but the true surprise lies in discovering it step-by-step.

What is AutoCAD?
AutoCAD is a type of CAD software used by architects, mechanical engineers, electronic engineers, and other types of engineers, and is a well-known product in the CAD/CAM space.
AutoCAD offers two types of licenses: perpetual and annual. As a perpetual license holder, you have the right to use the software for life and it continues to function even after its end-of-life.
Though the perpetual license is effective for life, it expires at the time of the license renewal after 5 years. A renewal is required even if the software is never used or only used occasionally.
The annual license, on the other hand, works like a license that is issued for the duration of a year. This license can be renewed annually for the same duration.
These licenses are available in annual and monthly terms. A subscription generally runs between one and three years and can be renewed for up to four years. Subscription to AutoCAD is for personal use only.
After the license expires, the license holder needs to purchase a license for life. If the license is for the perpetual license, then the perpetual license holder will be required to purchase a new license for life after the life license expires.
If the license is for an annual license, then the license holder will not be required to purchase a new license for life after the annual license expires.
If you want to continue using the software after the license expires, you will be required to pay a fee in the same way as if you were purchasing a new license.
Every license comes with the following features:
Let’s look at the difference between the perpetual and annual license options.
AutoCAD Perpetual License
The AutoCAD perpetual license option is available for a single user and lasts for life. It costs $750 to get the license for one year and $4,000 for five years.
The AutoCAD perpetual license has five main components:
AutoCAD Key Code : a unique alphanumeric key generated during installation of the product
: a unique alphanumeric key generated during installation of the product AutoCAD User Name : the user name that will be used to identify
AutoCAD only offers a limited set of writing tools to localize the application to other languages and geographic regions. It also offers access to the Internet via the Internet API. AutoCAD allows the use of its native code via the Autodesk Native Development Environment.
AutoCAD is able to open AutoCAD documents created in other CAD software, such as MicroStation, Visio and others. AutoCAD can also edit AutoCAD documents created in another CAD software. The editing features are not fully featured when compared to AutoCAD, but the collaboration features are.
AutoCAD was originally developed at Traf-o-Data, now Autodesk, as a suite of AutoCAD MEP (“mechanical, electrical and plumbing”) programs, and then was renamed AutoCAD. It was originally called “Autodesk Navigator” in the United States. This application was then renamed “AutoCAD” in the mid-1990s to coincide with the release of the original AutoCAD. In Japan, a slightly modified version of the program was released under the name.
AutoCAD is intended for architectural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and civil engineers. It was originally designed to run on DOS. The AutoCAD I program was introduced in 1985.
AutoCAD is similar to other CAD programs with regard to its 3D capabilities, parametric modeling, drafting, text and annotation tools. It also has an extensive command-line interface (CLI), allowing for automation of a large number of functions. The time it takes to create an architectural drawing in AutoCAD is significantly shorter than with other programs.
The product line grew with the introduction of the product “AutoCAD 2000”, which was made available in November 1993. The current version is “AutoCAD 2010” and was first introduced in 2007. The design intent of AutoCAD is to facilitate “data-driven design” where the physical properties and operations that affect a design are programmed into the software rather than into user preferences. This helps to simplify the design process, and to help users keep track of all of the data that affect the design.
AutoCAD contains a 3D modeling module, the “Raptor”, which allows the user to create 3D models that can be used to create 2D drawings or exported to other programs (e.g. Archicad or Revit) as 2D drawings. The

Figure 1: Importing feedback from a printed paper or PDF
As a co-worker sends you feedback on a drawing, markup import and Markup Assist will automatically identify the feedback and update your drawing. Feedback is automatically used to provide marking tools such as arrowheads, strikeouts, and ellipses, if needed. (video: 1:30 min.)
Figure 2: Automatic markings applied to the drawing
In addition to adding marking tools to your drawing, you can also have the following markings applied automatically:
Marks that identify and reference other drawings or external content
Errors to highlight parts of your drawing that may need attention
Traffic sign symbols to identify notes and other information
Highlighting lines to identify topology points or the order in which your lines should be connected
Object comments to identify important objects or show how they should be labeled
Identification marks to mark important objects or lines
If you want to use marking tools that can be applied to any object, such as strikethroughs, you can use Markup Assist to automatically mark the object. (video: 1:32 min.)

In previous releases, users could only import one line comment at a time. AutoCAD 2023 supports importing multiple comments simultaneously. (video: 2:05 min.)

You can also add markup directly to your drawing from a spreadsheet. Apply a drawing number, select the area you want to identify, then type the comments into the spreadsheet. Add the spreadsheet comments to the drawing when you’re ready to import. (video: 2:22 min.)

You can also import selected highlights from a PDF or print job to mark up your drawing. (video: 2:42 min.)
New Feature: Edit Settings
In previous releases of AutoCAD, users would have to select a menu option to switch between edit settings. In AutoCAD 2023, you can access this new setting in the Tools menu. Select the Settings drop-down and you’ll find an option called Advanced settings. (video: 2:51 min.)
