AutoCAD 2023 24.2 Download
Today, AutoCAD is still a major CAD program, although Autodesk has progressively reduced its standalone sales, and its dependence on market segmentation on the desktop is challenged by mobile computing and cloud computing. Its monthly service and maintenance revenue has been only about one-third of its total revenue.
The following sections discuss the evolution of AutoCAD, from its first release in 1982 to today’s version 2016.
The History of AutoCAD
The initial version of AutoCAD was called AutoCAD for Turbo Pascal (ATP) and was introduced in 1983. At the time, the AutoCAD product line was one of the fastest growing products in the world, as it was one of the first applications to support a major personal computer platform, the IBM PC. AutoCAD was written in Pascal (the author is listed as Thomas E. Copeland) and used a “graphics list” to drive the display of geometric data; each line in the list controlled an individual pen on a graphic tablet. The software was widely advertised in the popular computer magazines of the time. Later versions of the software, which continued to be written in Pascal, incorporated a faster graphics list and a single pen, as well as the ability to display color text, which had been introduced in the AutoCAD for MS-DOS (ATP2) and AutoCAD for DOS/MS-DOS (ATP3) releases. AutoCAD for DOS/MS-DOS became the dominant version for AutoCAD sales until the introduction of AutoCAD for Windows in 1985.
The principal target of AutoCAD’s development was the emerging microcomputer industry, particularly the desktop computer industry. The first AutoCAD release, ATP, featured simple user interface elements for drawing, modeling, and displaying 2D drawing objects. The user interface presented the drawing page as a grid of four rows and nine columns. The drawing page was divided into three regions. The bottom half of the page contained the drawing tools, including a toolbox and a drawing palette that displayed each tool with the name of the tool, its color, and its attributes. The drawing tools included a variety of geometric tools, including rectangles, lines, arcs, circles, and polygons, and line/arc/polygon/circle tools such as Line, Arc, and Polygon. The user could select a tool by clicking on the corresponding tool icon in the drawing palette.

CADA-Style is an industry standard (ISO/IEC 12782:2005) format for CAD data exchange.
AutoCAD is compatible with many proprietary CAD data formats such as PEI, AutoCAD Drawing Exchange Format (DXF), and Intergraph.DXF.
AutoCAD supports a “plug-in” style architecture. “Plug-ins” provide new functionality in AutoCAD and the ability for non-Autodesk developers to plug-in to the AutoCAD “engine” to extend AutoCAD’s capabilities.
Support for AutoCAD is included on Windows and Mac OS operating systems. In addition, the Windows version can also be installed on a VxWorks or Red Hat Linux operating system. AutoCAD has been ported to several other UNIX-like operating systems.
AutoCAD has also been ported to the iOS and Android operating systems with AutoCAD Mobile apps available on the App Store and Google Play.
The beta version of AutoCAD R14 was first released on Apple iPad.
AutoCAD is also supported on Google Android and Mac OS X.
AutoCAD is also available on Windows Phone 8 devices using Windows Runtime, as well as through native Windows Phone 8 applications.
In 2017, Autodesk announced they will release AutoCAD 2019 on Google Play and the App Store.
, the number of AutoCAD users has surpassed 200 million. AutoCAD is used by over 1 million architects in the US alone.
Components and features
AutoCAD includes a design environment with a wide variety of features. The main components of AutoCAD are:
Model creation and modeling
Creating a drawing, or model, is the most common use of AutoCAD. A drawing is a set of instructions that describe how to draw something. In the real-world, one drawing would often consist of several layers of instructions.
Level of automation and object creation
With many complex commands, AutoCAD can perform repetitive tasks. For example, a person can use the “Intersection” command to align two lines to a common point. For a more complex object, such as a plane, the person will need to draw the lines first. Once that is complete, the person can use the “intersection” command to ensure that the planes are aligned.
There are several ways to create objects in AutoC

Select the “Activate Autodesk Inventor” from the drop-down menu. The application will then check if the key you have is valid and will enable you to use Autocad and Autodesk Inventor with your license.
Step 4: Activate
To start using Autocad and Autodesk Inventor, you need to log in and activate the software on your computer.
Click “Activate” from the toolbar or the “Tools” menu
If you are prompted to choose a serial number, enter the serial number printed on the enclosed CD, along with the validation key found on the same CD.
Click “Ok” and then “Activate”
Step 5: Screenshots
If you use Autocad, you’ll get all the new features without a download, including screenshot, video, and drawing tools.
If you’re not using Autocad, you can access all of the new features by downloading the latest Autocad BETA, which you can find at
Note that some of the features and functionality are subject to change.
Step 6: How to update
Autocad is updated every two months. To get the latest update, sign into Autodesk.com and check for the latest release.
The Autodesk® Autocad® and Autodesk® Inventor® 2009 software is subject to the End-User License Agreement included on the enclosed diskette.
Use Autocad and Autodesk Inventor with the Autodesk Inventor 2009 application only. Autocad is a new version. You can not use the Autocad 2008 or Autocad 2008 Service Pack 1 with Autocad 2009.

What’s New In AutoCAD?
The AutoCAD 2023 release includes two new markup features for drawings: Import and Markup Assist.
Rapidly send and incorporate feedback into your designs. Import feedback from printed paper or PDFs and add changes to your drawings automatically, without additional drawing steps. (video: 1:15 min.)
Mark up changes to your drawings automatically. Add text, lines, arrows, and even parametric data (eg. width, depth, and length) to your drawings quickly, without additional drawing steps. (video: 1:33 min.)
AutoCAD 2023 also includes new functions for customizing brushes, integrating CAD and page layouts, and new variations for a broad range of styles.
Customize your brushes with new brush variations. You can now instantly change colors and linetypes of existing brushes and create new brushes from existing linetypes. (video: 1:12 min.)
Use the new Brush Editor to:
Re-name your brushes to match the name you use for each drawing and model space
Customize your brush colors and linetypes
Create a duplicate of an existing brush (for more flexibility in placing your brush)
Apply brushes to geometry or objects using shapes or paths
Use the new Brush Editor to apply new colors or linetypes to your brushes:
Click on the Brush tab and select a new color
Select a new style from the toolbar
Add a new color and style
Customize the current brush colors and linetypes
Integrate CAD and Page Layouts
Integrate CAD and page layouts with new features for Layout and Review functions in AutoCAD 2023. You can now:
Create views that match your layout view. Place new layers in the correct location in your layout, then turn off the visibility of those layers in your layout. The layers in your layout become a reference for how your drawing should look in your page layout.
Create a view that matches the size of your page layout. Place new layers in the correct location in your page layout, then turn off the visibility of those layers in your layout.
